Digit-al Dozen - Spring Week - Day 3

Hiya guys! Happy St. Patrick's Day! Today's post is a double dosage of awesome because not only is it Day 3 of Digit-al Dozen Spring Week, but I'm also teaming up with Cheyenne of CDBNails for bestie twin nails. We have been wanting to do pond manis together for the longest time and finally things fell into place on our schedules for us to get this out of our system. And, of course, we're already planning our next one together!

Pond manis are totally and completely addicting as they are time consuming. If you don't know what a pond mani is then I'll explain. Basically it's a mani concept created using 3-4 sheer layers of polish and art. In this case sheer white polish, some green, and some clover stamping!

Doesn't the color combination and the way the layering settled look like it's vintage?! I mean that totally wasn't on purpose, but as I'm writing I'm definitely digging it. Yes, definitely the whole vintage thing really fits perfectly for today!

Though I am a curious cat so I am left wondering why this turned out with more of a lime green/yellow hue than white. Perhaps not enough white sheer polish was used in between layers or maybe my polish bleed into the white. Just like the licks to the center of a tootsie pop, the world may never know.

Here's my break down of what I used to create this mani:

  • Polishes: Homemade sheer white polish, Bettina Green Apple, and Pueen Amazon Green
  • MoYou London Stamping Plate - Festive Set #21
  • Top Coat: Seche Vite

Pond manicures as I explained briefly are just layers among layers. There is a lot of drying time involved, especially if you freehand in between layers. Stamping is a little quicker, but I still took about an hour and a half on this manicure. Personally I don't like using topcoat in between my layers because it adds to the 'weight', which can result in the nail looking too bulky. Also you take the chance of creating air bubbles between your layers, which after all this work I really didn't want to risk.

And there is a video tutorial with voice-over... again, haha!

I'm really glad I was able to record a voice-over with this pond mani unlike the last time. I apologize if my voice sounds a little on the low side, I was recording this at 3 am. Yup, I'm running off two hours worth of sleep today... woohoo said no one ever haha.

Like I said before, I teamed up with Cheyenne and as always she toally blew it out of the park! I adore the way her mani ended up turning out! I love how different hers turned out even though we did the exact same thing, ah the magic of art!

And that's it for Day 3, let me know what you guys think of this look! Have you ever tried a pond mani before? As always, be sure to check out what the other ladies from the Digit-al Dozen came up with for Day 3 of Spring week.
