Zoya Spring 2016 Petals - Swatches & Review

Hiya guys! Kicking off this week with a bang... and a kick to winter's butt haha. It's almost officially spring and I have been in the mood for pastels for weeks. Today I'm really excited to be sharing the Spring 2016 release from Zoya called the Petals Collection. Ever since the press release last week I have been thinking non-stop about the shades (here's looking at you Leia). Let's go ahead and get started.

The Petals Spring 2016 Collection from Zoya is now available for purchase. Each shade retails between $9.00-$10.00 and the entire set is available for $60.00.

Zoya - Zahara

Zahara can be described as a brilliant shimmering coral made modern with an opalescent effect. I didn't think I was going to say this, but I am in love with this shade. Corals never seem to suit me, but this ended up being the perfect tone against my skintone. Not to mention the shimmer is just giving this life! Formula was great and not too thick or thin. It's a bit on the sheer side depending on your application style. I usually have a light hand and was able to get away with just two coats. Shown in two thin coats and sealed with a glossy topcoat.

Zoya - Leia

Leia can be described as a sheer opalescent white with flecks of fuchsia, green and gold. And here's the shade everyone was crazy over during the press release... and rightly so! I am in love with this gorgeous topper. I do say topper because on its own it's extremely sheer. Even after four coats (who even has time for that insane dry time) you'll still have a visible nail line. Definitely pair this beauty up with a base like I did here. Fantastic formula and I just have to say it's a must-have for me. Shown here is one coat over a white base and sealed with a glossy topcoat.

Zoya - Azalea

Azalea can be described as a classic spring pink with a captivating white and fuchsia flash. Gorgeous hot pink, not too unique though (at least to me). I keep thinking summer with this shade, don't you? It's just so bright and fun, you guys will see me wearing this a lot more with nail art. It's definitely one of the more opaque ones in this collection. Very easy and smooth formula, great application. Shown in two thin coats and sealed with a glossy topcoat.

Zoya - Tulip

Tulip can be described as a pure pastel salmon cream with the slightest hint of sheen to mimic a petal soft finish. I'm always excited when I see cream polishes in a collection, especially a shade like this where I don't own anything similar to it. The formula was sheer and had a streaky application even after the second coat. The consistency felt thick to layer making three coats to cover for the streakiness kind of a nightmare. Shown in three thin coats and sealed with a glossy topcoat.

Zoya - Aster

Aster can be described as a fresh periwinkle with flecks of fuchsia to create a dewy finish. Definitely my favorite among this collection and another must-have for me. It's a blurple and that's just an instant win, haha. Similar formula to Azalea, really smooth and has an easy application. Shown in two thin coats and sealed with a glossy topcoat.

Zoya - Laurel

Laurel can be described as a warm pastel pink with the slightest hint of sheen to mimic a petal soft finish. I found this one very similar in application to Tulip and not in a good way. It has a streaky application and even though it self-levels you could still see patches after two coats. I do love the tone of this pink though, so I am so torn about not liking it. I'll probably end up giving this another go in the near future. Shown in three thin coats and sealed with a glossy topcoat.

Overall I do have to say this is probably my favorite Spring release from Zoya to date, the shades are just a lot of fun and were a bit unexpected. I can't even think of any dupes within the Zoya universe. Now I do have to say I was a little disappointed in the formula of the two creams, but the rest of the collection glosses over that for me. All the shades feel very versatile on different skin-tones, which is something I was really hoping for this year. Leia and Aster are must-haves without a doubt and definitely recommend them. But tell me guys, which ones are your favorite(s)?!

    1. I don't remember off the top of my head, but usually I either use Zoya Purity or Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear White On. If you're looking for some indie I highly recommend Tux Polish Pure or Rica Polish Whiteout.
