Hiya guys! I'm back this afternoon with another shade you're sure to love from this months Polish Pickup Collaboration. Here I have swatches for the gorgeous Looking Up by Contrary Polish, which has quickly become one of my favorites from this brand ever. As if your wallets weren't quaking enough, haha. This month Polish Pick Up fans voted and the theme that was selected was Fall Foliage and Fun! I'll admit I wasn't super excited as other months when I saw the theme, but the makers quickly put a stop to those thoughts with some incredible creations. The creativity is astounding to say the least. But enough talking, I'll let the polishes do the talking and let's get to the swatches!
Looking Up by Contrary Polish will be available for purchase through the Polish Pickup Shop September 1st at 11am EST through September 4th. This full-size 15mL shade will retail for $11.50 each.
If you're not familiar with the concept, the Polish Pickup offers a fun, interactive experience that allows you to submit theme ideas, vote for your favorite theme, and selectively purchase your favorite polishes every month. As I mentioned before, the theme this month is Fall Foliage and Fun. For inspiration, Carrie used a gorgeous photo of the sky seen through colorful fall leaves.
Looking Up can be described as a deep sky blue crelly with iridescent color-shifting shimmer/glitter/flakes that change from red to orange to green and gold. Excuse me while I wipe my drool! Seriously the flakies... it's all about dem flakies! Not to mention it's one of the most unique polishes to ever grace my collection. There is just something about the combination of it all... it just nails (no pun intended) the right hue to be the perfect blue year round.
The formula has a sheer initial application, but builds-up evenly for full coverage. Consistency wise it feels very balanced, not too thick or too thin. I found that definitely very impressive considering how packed with flakies and glitters it is. It dries down to a minimal gritty finish, but smooths out perfectly after topcoat. Plus the best news you can hear about any blue shade, I experienced no staining on removal to my nail beds or cuticles. Shown here in three coats and sealed with a glossy topcoat.
Overall this is definitely one of the shades that surprised me the most to see this month. For whatever reason I just didn't think it was possible to pull off a blue in a Fall themed month. Not only did Carrie pull it off, she did in spectacular fashion! Great formula, great color - it's exactly what you expect from a Contrary Polish shade. And yes, it's definitely a must-have this month.
