Kathleen & Co - Polish Pick Up August 2018

Hiya guys! Ah, this is it. The last post I'll be doing for the next few months short of press releases for mainstream collections. I'm definitely going to miss all of you and miss this crazy routine that has been my life for the last few years. But great things are yet to come and that makes me have a renewed sense of genuine happiness. Enough about that though, we need to talk about our favorite time of month. Polish Pickup! Wallets everywhere brace yourselves for a crazy beautiful month that is sure to wreck us all. For today I'm sharing swatches for Colors of the Wind by Kathleen & Co, which is the August contribution to the Polish Pickup Collaboration. This finish has a twist that seems to be very on trend right now, it's a magnetic! While it's not my first magnetic polish, it is the first time I am sharing it on my blog. Now without further ado, let's go ahead and get right to the swatches.

Colors of the Wind by Kathleen & Co will be available for purchase through the Polish Pickup Shop Friday, August 3rd at 11AM EST through August 6th. The full-size 15mL shade will retail for $14 each and there is a generous cap of 300.

If you're not familiar with the concept, the Polish Pickup offers a fun, interactive experience that allows you to submit theme ideas, vote for your favorite theme, and selectively purchase your favorite polishes every month. As I mentioned before, the theme that was voted for August is Musicals. This month Mia found her inspiration from the Disney movie Pocahontas.

Colors of the Wind can be described as an indigo jelly polish loaded with magenta/copper/gold multichrome magnetic, red/gold unicorn pigment and iridescent color-shifting flakies. Isn't it a stunning eye-catching color?! I love how rich the color is whilst the flakes capture the leaves in the wind vibe flawlessly. It's a perfect representation for Pocahontas and my inner kid is absolutely giddy about it. Of course I wish I could have captured the color shifting better, but it's definitely one of those times where it just comes to life under direct sunlight. The tone of the purple does bring out a bit of warmth from my skin-tone, but it's not enough to cause any clashing (or to make me look like a lobster). Please note the magnetic effect can be seen running through the middle of the nail in my photos. It was very hard to capture the effect, but it's definitely there and more vibrant in person.

The formula has a very sheer application as expected for a jelly finish. However the finish ends-up building-up really well for full coverage, which was very impressive. Consistency wise it leans on the thin side, but it doesn't feel runny or pools during the layering process. The flakes have a great distribution throughout the application as well and didn't clump during or overwhelm the nail. Now let's talk about the magnetic effect! The effect was pretty straight-forward as I held the magnet over the still wet nail for about 15-30 seconds for it to appear. I used a cat-eye magnet and held the magnet horizontal on the nail. In photos the effect feels much more dimmed down than what it actually is in person. There is a lot more flair and also a noticeable copper to gold color shift along the magnetic line. Other than that, it dries down to a minimal gritty finish that smooths out perfectly topcoat. I'd also like to note that I didn't experience any staining to my cuticles or nail beds on removal. Shown in three coats and sealed with a glossy topcoat.
