Joy Lacquer - Mr. Brightside Collection

Hiya guys! It's finally time for the weekend, which means it's time to rest. I'm such a party animal, right? But in my defense, it's going to be raining nonstop. I'll just have to let me imagination run wild while I polish it up in the mani cave. Spoken like a true addict, eh? Ha. Today I'm sharing swatches for the Mr. Brightside Collection by Joy Lacquer, which consists of six bright super shimmer cream shades. This collection is inspired by music, the beach and popular "booze infused" summer festivals! So basically everything I wish was happening in my life this weekend, haha. Let's get to the swatches!

Joy Lacquer - Lime Shandy

Lime Shandy can be described as a pale neon yellow/lime green with heavy blue shimmer. I feel like I should have warned you to put on some sunglasses, haha. This shade is bright, fun, and everything that a summer polish should be. It's actually my favorite in this collection and a total must have. Plus it even glows in the dark!

The formula has a nice smooth application with a good level of opacity. It has a balanced consistency, not too thick or too thin. Dries down to a gritty finish that smooths out perfectly after topcoat.. Shown in two coats and sealed with a glossy topcoat.

And as I mentioned, it glows perfectly in the dark! I only had to charge it for about ten minutes under my lamp in order to take the photo.

Joy Lacquer - Absolute Dragonfruit

Absolute Dragonfruit can be described as a bright red leaning orange/red with ultra fine purple shimmer dust.

The formula a very opaque application almost enough to be a one coater, but I did see a bit of a visible nail line. Again with this shade, it's a very nice smooth and balanced consistency. Shown in two coats and sealed with a glossy topcoat.

Joy Lacquer - Black Rock City

Black Rock City can be described as a bright fiery orange creme with blue shimmer and green/blue iridescent glitter. Admittedly this one this my least favorite in this collection, I think it ends up clashing a bit against my skin-tone. That said, I do really like the shade itself. It has a very creamsicle feel to it, right? Definitely a shade that screams summer.

The formula has a very sheer and patchy application that ends up leveling out better well. Consistency wise it's a bit thick, but manageable if applied with a light hand. Next time I use this shade I will need to add some thinner for a smoother application. It dries down to a minimal gritty finish. Shown in three coats and sealed with a glossy topcoat.

Doing the Unstuck can be described as a medium purple or deep magenta pink with orange shimmer and turquoise blue micro-flecks.

The formula has a really opaque application, it's an easy one coater. To add a bit more shimmer though I did opt for two coats. Consistency is on the thick side, but manageable enough to layer easily. It dries down to a semi-satin and gritty finish. Shown in two coats and sealed with a glossy topcoat.

Joy Lacquer - West Fest '17
Joy Lacquer - West Fest '17

West Fest '17 can be described as a nearly neon teal green with a heavy purple/blue shimmer and scattered opalescent flakies.

The formula has a good opacity, but does lean on sheer with a visible nail line. It does build-up well and has nice even coverage. It has a nice balanced consistency, not too thick or too thin. One thing I'd like to note is that the polish had a really strong smell, much stronger than the normal polish smell. I was a bit sensitive to the stronger odor, but I usually am when it comes to the 'skunk' smell of certain blues and teals. That said, I experience no staining on removal to either my cuticles or nail bed. Shown in two coats and sealed with a glossy topcoat.

Bondi Surf can be described as a cobalt blue packed with pink and purple shimmer, a few pink/purple micro-glitter and scattered gold/green micro-flecks.

The formula has a smooth application with a good amount of opacity. While the consistency itself feels balanced, the polish ends up feeling thick on the nail itself. I did use a light handed application, so perhaps a bit of thinner would help next time. It dries down to a gritty finish that smooths out nicely after topcoat. I also experience no staining with this color on removal, always a big plus. Shown in two coats and sealed with a glossy topcoat.

Overall I'm really in love with how bright and fun this collection is. I do wish there was a bit more consistency in the formulas across the collection and that some didn't lean so thick. But that said, there are some clear stunners in the group that are total must-haves. My top picks go out to Lime Shady and Absolute Dragonfruit, now tell me which ones are yours?

To recap, the Mr. Brightside Collection by Joy Lacquer will be releasing on Friday, July 14th. Each full-size bottle will retail for $10 and the mini-size for $7. Use code MrBrightside25 to take 25% off when you purchase the complete collection.
