Supermoon Lacquer - Polish Pick Up March 2018

Hiya guys! Can you believe it's almost the end of the month? Like I know February is a short one, but time has seriously just flown by for me. And I don't like it one bit! And to make things just a little bit worse... I caught a cold from my boyfriend. Again. The light at the end of the tunnel is that this Friday tickets for BTS will go on sale and hopefully I will be able to score some. Fingers crossed. Also happening this Friday.... Polish Pick Up! Even though I have not been blogging a whole lot for the last few months I have by no means stopped buying polish. If nothing else I think that PPU is the one time a month I allow my wallet to be wrecked. For today I'm sharing swatches for Love Yourself by Supermoon Lacquer, which is the March contribution to the Polish Pickup Collaboration. I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am that Mardi decided to create this shade as the inspiration is near and dear to my heart. More on that in a bit, first let's take a look at the swatches!

If you're not familiar with the concept, the Polish Pickup offers a fun, interactive experience that allows you to submit theme ideas, vote for your favorite theme, and selectively purchase your favorite polishes every month. As I mentioned before, the theme that was voted for March is Album Covers. This month Mardi found her inspiration from the BTS album Love Yourself. In her own words:

I first got into KPOP in the late 2000s with OG groups such as Big Bang and Wonder Girls. However, it'd been awhile since I'd really given the genre much thought or focus since a lot of the groups that had sprung up in the early 2010s didn't really interest me. Nearly a decade later in April/May of 2018, a friend of mine wouldn't shut up about this group called BTS. I had heard of them, of course, but had resisted giving them a shot for roughly a year to a year and a half before that because I didn't really want to either A. be disappointed or B. fall back down the KPOP rabbit hole. Well I finally caved in and fast forward to the present day where I've now seen them in concert, own nearly 3/4ths of their discography (physical albums, mind you), have converted about 10 other people into ARMY (BTS's fandom name), and have also fallen in love with a number of other current groups. SIGH. So of course when the album covers theme was announced, I KNEW I had to do BTS. I chose to use the cover of their 'Love Yourself: Answer' album - the third and final installment in their 'Love Yourself' trilogy, which the polish was then named after.

And that friend she mentions? THAT'S ME! I discovered BTS in May of last year with their song Fake Love and immediately fell in love with Park Jimin. I would talk about my bias night and day to Mardi and as she said she fell in the rabbit hole with me. It hasn't even been a year and I can honestly say this group of seven have changed my life for the better. I don't want to babble too much, you're here for the pretty polish after all, so expect a full blog post about BTS at a later date.

Love Yourself can be described as a white holographic base filled with cyan/blue/purple and blue/purple/magenta multichrome pigment, purple-to-red color shifting aurora pigment, green-to-pink, blue-to-purple, and violet-to-red color shifting shimmer, silver shimmer, white sparks, iridescent blue/purple microglitter, holographic silver microglitter, rainbow pearl microflakies, and holographic silver microflakies. I always love Mardi's very detailed descriptions because there is just so much going on in the finish. My photos are taken indoors in a light-box so it's definitely dimming the holographic effect a bit. In addition to that it my photos really capture the blue/cyan reflection making the base lean more towards a blue-grey-ish tint. Under direct sunlight the finish comes to life and you can see all the reflection of the colors. That said, the holo flame is subtle but there is more than enough to create a gorgeous contrast with the shimmer. It effortlessly nails the holographic design of the album cover, as a huge BTS stan I more than approve! The shade also looks really good against my skin-tone, which is not something I tend to expect with lighter white toned polishes. There is a bit of warmth, but it doesn't cause any clashing and instead gives my skin a perfect glow.

The formula has a surprisingly opaque application considering it's a lighter shade. Almost can be a one coater, but definitely needs the second for full coverage at least. The consistency feels well balanced throughout, not too thick or too thin. Very easy to work with and I didn't encounter any issues when layering. As I mentioned before my photos don't do any justice to the holographic sparkle of the finish. Keep in mind that the sparkle is much more lively under direct sunlight. The polish dries down to a minimal gritty finish that smooths out perfectly after topcoat. Shown in two coats and sealed with a glossy topcoat.
