CDB Lacquer - Birthstone Collection Pt1

Hi everyone! It's an exciting day because not only do I have swatches to show you, but I have a project to finally introduce. My friend Cheyenne and I have decided to start our own monthly challenge group called Nail Crazies Unite. It'll be four prompts, one per week so that us busy girls don't have to go too crazy. Please come join us on Facebook at Nail Crazies Unite or on Instagram @nailcraziesunite. Now let's get to the swatches for today, because I have a ton to show you. CDB Lacquer is releasing a very ambitious collection based on the birthstone for every month of the year. That's right ladies, this is a twelve-piece collection that covers everything from diamonds to amethyst stones. In today's review, I'll be showing you the first half January through June. Let's take a look.

CDB Lacquer - Birthstone Collection

The Birthstone Collection by CDB Lacquer will be releasing tomorrow Friday January 23rd. So if you don't see your birthstone here, don't worry the remaining swatches will be posted tomorrow afternoon.

January
CDB Lacquer - January

January is a deep red glitterbomb, inspired by the January stone Garnet. This is such a deep and potent shade of red! Though not intended, I can't help but think it's perfect for Valentine's Day. Best part? No staining. Excellent formula, sheer in one coat but only needs two for an opaque finish. The layers build up really nicely and don't clump up. For these swatches, I used two thin coats and sealed with a thick glossy topcoat.

February
CDB Lacquer - February

February is a royal purple glitterbomb, inspired by the Fedbruary stone Amethyst. This purple is so vibrant and stunning, no matter your skin complexion. The micro glitters really stand out against the color, just take a look at that macro! Again, same great formula and consistency. I had no issues layering and didn't have to apply any more than two thin layers. For these swatches, I used two thin coats and sealed with a thick glossy topcoat.

March
CDB Lacquer - March

March is an aqua glitterbomb, inspired by the March stone Aquamarine. Do I have to say how crazy I am about this shade? You guys know what a complete psycho I am over teal. I feel the shade has almost a matte finish naturally, which makes it that much more exquisite. The formula stays consistent with the others and applies as smooth as butter. Because of the thin layers needed, this ends up drying rather quickly. I applied two thin coats and sealed it off with a nice glossy topcoat.

April
CDB Lacquer - April

April is a white shimmer crelly packed tight with holo glitters, inspired by the April stone Diamond. I find this beauty to lean more towards grey rather than white once it's layered. Perhaps maybe more of an 'off-white' depending on the skin tone. Out of all the ones reviewed in this half, I find that April's formula is a tad bit 'thicker' than the others. Despite that, it still applies easily with two thin coats. This one in particular I love using as a base for nail art, I used it just the other day for that purpose for a gradient.

May
CDB Lacquer - May

May is an emerald green glitterbomb, inspired by the May stone Emerald. Love how deeply pigmented this one is. It hits the mark and represents the beautiful Emerald stone well. As you can see, these swatches appear a little bit on the textured side. Because all these are extremely glitter heavy, they will look textured if no top coat is used. In this case, I ended up using only a very thin layer of top coat and after it dried it textured a bit. Your best bet to avoid this is to use either two thin layers of top coat or one layer of a thick glossy top coat.

June
CDB Lacquer - June

June is a baby pink glitterbomb, inspired by the June stone Alexandrite. Again, not intentional but doesn't this look like the perfect shade for love day? Pink is one of those shades that are hit or miss with my skin tone. CDB Lacquer managed to nail it though! No pun intended. It's a beautiful pink that actually looks pink and doesn't clash with the color of my skin. So psyched. Formula is easy to apply and only needs two thin layers just like the rest.

Overall I'm absolutely in love with the polishes in this first half. The birthstone idea is one that I was looking forward to since the initial announcement from CDB Lacquer. I used to be obsessed with having all the birthstones in a necklace when I was a kid, so this brought back some fun memories for me. January and March are definitely my hands down top two picks from this first half. As I mentioned throughout the review, all of them have a really stunning finish and the formula is perfection. Two easy coats and that's it! I do recommend doing two layers of a thick glossy topcoat for each one in order to smooth down the glitters.

The Birthstone Collection by CDB Lacquer will be releasing tomorrow Friday January 23rd. I'll catch you tomorrow with the second half of this review. Before you go though, let me know which one is your favorite?

  11. I really love this collection. I really love the March birthstone. I was so unhappy when Julep released theirs. Since it was my birth month, I was the most displeased with their version. I may have to snatch this one up!
