Trip to Citifield for Mets vs. Phillies Game

Hiya guys! So I have something really different lined up for this post as you can see from the title of the blog. Last weekend I went to Citifield to watch a baseball game: Mets vs Phillies. Yes, I actually went to a social event outside of my home with lots and lots of people... voluntarily might I add. It was a surprise gift Austin and me did for my dad's birthday last month. I had only been to a game once before in my life when I was a kid and I know it had been years since my dad went into the city. Plus this summer is all about stepping outside my comfort zone. I haven't done much outside of my house in a very long time. Couldn't even tell you the last time I went on vacation. Of course that started changing once BTS came into my life. I know I reference them a lot in my posts and some of my readers don't know about them. I plan on making a full post at a later point. I want to let you guys in on what started making me live again when I thought I would forever in darkness. But back to the topic on hand for now, summer goals and plans. I hadn't even watched fireworks in lord knows how long and this baseball game had a special treat after the game. Stranger Things themed fireworks! Knocking two things off my summer bucket list in one trip!

We ended up driving there, which was about an hour and a half. My anxiety level isn't quite ready to handle public transportation especially for something like a game where it'll be more crowed than normal. I've come far in this last year, but I am not there yet haha. Yet being the key word. Anyway the drive there and back was quite easy, definitely not as crowded as when I attended the BTS concert last Fall. We couldn't even park at the stadium back then. Good thing that wasn't the case this time because the day started out with heavy clouds in the sky. I came prepared with rain ponchos, which I only had to pull out twice. It was barely even needed to be honest and thank goodness because it was so hot with it on. I felt like bacon wrapped in plastic ready to cooked, haha.

Like I said, the trip there was nice and easy. Found a close parking spot and had plenty of time before the game started. I didn't even find the crowd too overbearing at all. My anxiety was pretty chill once I arrived and I remained unbothered throughout my time there. We didn't visit any of the shops though I kind of wished we would have. There was a special design Mets hat for 4th of July that the players wore during the game. I actually forgot about it until typing this post, so I might have to search online and see if I can find one for my pops.

The game was supposed to start at around 7:15 PM, but because of the weather being on and off rain it was moved an hour later. It kind of sucked waiting around all that time. But we took advantage of the time to get plenty of food and drinks and went to the restroom. I hate being those people who constantly get up during the game, so I wanted to make sure I was content once it started. Food wise did blow though because I couldn't find any gluten free selections. Maybe it was on another floor, I'll admit I didn't look around too hard. Your girl here wanted her chicken fingers and fries, haha.

And the game finally started! I never tend to watch baseball games anymore, I used to back in my teenage days when I wanted to just spend time with my dad. I know the basic concept, but I did have it explained to me twice during the game so I knew what was happening. To be honest this was a super interesting game. One of the pitchers for the Phillies accidentally hit the player and that caused a huge uproar with the Mets player getting very mad. The pitcher ended up doing it a second time to a different and the crowd went wild. I think that's when the energy in the stadium went up because the early innings were a bit slow winded. My dad suggested we leave around the seventh or eight inning, I think he was worried about me. I brushed him off though because I was determined to stay until the end. Especially after the gamed started getting really close. At one point Mets were up then they were down and then an upset! We were all definitely on the edge of our seats as we watched. And I actually watched the entire game never once getting distracted or bored. I mean besides taking a few photos and selfies here and there, haha. A girl needs her selfies.

And the Mets won! I was very excited and I'm not even a huge fan (more like a fan because of my dad liking them). Apparently they don't tend to do well against the Phillies so I came into this thinking they would end up losing. Mets winning was so huge and I am very happy we could be there to cheer them on.

It was around midnight or so when the game ended and within minutes the staff started setting up for the Stranger Things themed fireworks. The lights were shut off and classic 80s music started blaring from the speakers as the firework show started. The giant monitor showed clips from the first two seasons of Stranger Things the entire time as well. We had such a perfect view of the entire thing as it was right in front of us. I think my favorite part was when they played the Ghostbusters theme song and you saw the kids in their cute costumes from season one. The whole thing was around 10 minutes long but it was so worth sticking around to the end to watch it all.

And that was my day at Citifield for a Mets game! Honestly I wasn't not expecting to have such a great time like I did. I had even brought my headphones just in case thinking I would be bored. But I actually had such a fantastic evening that I came home and tried buying tickets for another game. On my phone at like 3 AM. I didn't though because I need to learn how to think my purchases through a little more. Something about impulse buying blah blah blah, haha. I definitely will be trying to go again more towards the Fall though. I know this seems like such a random event, but it was fun to do something so outside my comfort zone. I can't wait to share more of my summer adventures with you guys and I hope you enjoy reading them. Please let me know if you've ever been to a baseball game. Let me know any tips for my next visit or when is the best time to get tickets.

Until next time moonchildren.
