Great Lakes Lacquer - Polish Pick Up January 2021

Hiya guys and Happy New Year! I cannot believe we finally made it through such an awful year, but here we are ready to begin again. And what better what to do that then going back to what I love to do the most... swatch nail polish! Now while I'm by no means doing this full-time anymore, you will definitely be seeing a lot more of me when it comes to polish. There will still be planner, K-Pop, and a bunch of other things mixed in-between just like last year, but nail polish and nail art will definitely more a lot more frequent than it has been. But anyhow I'm babbling already and we haven't even begun talking about the drop dead gorgeous polish I am wearing. Say hello to Great Lakes Lacquer's January  2021 contribution to Polish Pick-Up named Labradorescence. This month the theme for the Polish Pick-Up is Birthstones, Gems, and Minerals with this shade being inspired by labradorite and the colors it can reflect. Without further ado, let's get to the swatches!

Labradorescence can be described as a sheer cobalt blue based absolutely brimming with an iridescent flake shifting from copper to gold to green to aqua with a shifting shimmer to match. First and foremost… wowza! Am I right? Oof this shade just really kind of hits like a truck with the bling and shimmer from the get-go. And really I feel like my photos barely do the shimmer any justice, it's just so overwhelmingly shiny (in the best sense of course). I'm personally not a crazy huge fan of this flakie packed finish, but I can see the appeal that it has to others. It was like the more I wore it or stared at the photos the more drawn I felt to it. It's just serious magic on your nails, haha. One I can say for sure is that this gorgeous blue suits my skin-tone oh so nicely and gives me a wonderful glow. Definitely needed in this cold winter stuck indoors.

The formula has a extremely sheer jelly-ish application that can be layered to achieve full opacity. Though it should be noted it does need quite a bit of layering and in my case I had to use about three to four coats. The consistency throughout is very balanced however and that makes the layering process very easy. Though if you use heavy brush strokes you may find it thicken and clump a bit, so definitely recommend nice thin coats. In retrospect I wish I had layered this over a base to showcase the different look and feel of the formula. The finish is jam-packed with flakies throughout and causes the polish to dry down slightly gritty/textured on its own. And because it's a blue shade I would like to note that I experienced no staining on removal to either my cuticles or nailbeds. Shown here in three to four coats and sealed with a double layer of glossy topcoat.

What a beautiful way to start the new year, am I right?! I'm looking forward to shaking off 2020 and starting fresh both in life and blogging. There will hopefully be a lot of updates coming your way this month, especially from this amazing brand as Mariah has a lot of gorgeous releases coming soon. Don't sleep on this shade because as I mentioned it will only be available for purchase until January 4th through Polish Pick-Up. But that's all I have for you today, Happy New Year once again and I will catch you later xoxo Moonbaes.
