Landscape Nail Design Using Scaled Gradient Technique With Tutorial by Alpsnailart

Hello everyone! Wishing you fresh start of the week with this fresh manicure.  I am Alpana, from blog www.alpsnailart.com. I will be your host for today's blog post. Oh, I am not hijacking Rose's blog! Lol. Then where is Rose?! Don't worry, she is right here with us, hosting a guest post on my blog. I know you are missing Rose, so you can see her post on my blog here: http://wp.me/p4Je69-sj.

In today's post I am sharing:

  • Drawing Landscape nail design without using brush
  • Scaled gradient technique with a twist and
  • Creative uses of nail vinyls.

I have combined Landscape nail design with scaled gradient. Yes, 2 different forms of nail art in one manicure. How?  Read further to know the twist ;)

Recently when I was working on Simplynailogical's famous Scaled gradient technique for #nailthattechnique challenge, I got an idea in my mind. How about trying landscape design using same process as scaled gradient! I could immediately think of landscape drawings with Sky, mountains and water we used to draw as kids. Something like following landscape drawing image.

Taking the above landscape drawing as inspiration I started working on my landscape base using Snail Vinyls. Following is step by step tutorial for Landscape Nail design using Scaled gradient technique and Snail Nail Vinyls.

Products Used:
    Nail polishes

  • White : Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear White On
  • Dark Blue : Doctor Lacquer Phycocyanin
  • Light Blue : Maybelline Color Show Blueberry Ice
  • Dark Brown: Maybelline Color Show Choco Sin
  • Light brown : Tilie Polish Posh
  • Green : Maybelline Color Show Mint Mojito
  • Light Blue Holo : El Corazon Active Bio Gel Large Hologram
  • Yellow : Maybelline Color Show Sweet Sunshine
  • Seche Vite Quick Dry Top Coat

Other Tools:

Step 1. Apply White Base Coat.

Step 2.  Sky: Apply thin lines of Dark blue, light blue and white nail polishes on make up sponge. Sponge them on 1/3rd part of nails (On cuticle side )  creating  gradient.  Repeat coats 2-3 times. Apply quick dry top coat.

Step 3. Once the first layer is completely dry, stick on chevron nail vinyls and wave vinyls. Also stick scotch tapes above chevron vinyls and wave vinyls to cover up first layer of base.

Note: Since I am using jelly blue polishes for water, I am sticking wave vinyls in the 3rd step itself. If you are using opaque blue color, you may add  wave vinyl after completing step 3 and 4.

Step 4. Mountains and Grass: Apply thin lines of Dark brown, light brown and green nail colors on make up sponge. Sponge them in middle part of the nail creating gradient. Repeat coats till you achieve desired opacity.

Step 5. Remove the nail vinyls immediately.  Apply quick dry top coat to even out gradient.

Step 6. Water: Apply light blue/ blue  jelly polish on remaining 1/3rd part of nail. With the help of dotting tool, add a yellow dot in between mountains to draw Sun. Seal the design with Quick dry top coat.

Once the landscape base is ready you may add elements of your choice. I have added here, Dolphin sticker and some dry flowers to give it touch of spring.

If you are like me who love to see freehand landscape designs but not comfortable with brush on nails, then you should definitely try this method.

  8. Wow, these nails are definitely a work of art! I love the zig-zag design and the dolphin sticker - perfect shapes and finishing touches. :) I admit to not being nearly that talented, so I mainly play with glitter and sequins. Still, it's fun to see posts like these for both inspiration and admiration!
