Pizza Slice Nail Art

Hiya guys! I have been all over the place lately and I'm really bummed out about it. My mind has been all over the place, but honestly I feel like that's a whole topic for another post. Because today your girl here wants to talk about nails.... and food. My best two subjects. I woke up feeling so very hungry this morning and the feeling has yet to subside. No matter what I end up munching on it's just not hitting the right spot. And I don't exactly want to keep eating either, because that's how I wound up so overweight a few years ago. Not cool. So then I thought about some pizza and well here we are with today's nail art post, haha. Unfortunately this is another nail art look that I created a few years ago and just never got around to sharing it with you. Why? I'm not sure. I think it was mostly due to a combination of poor health and being overwhelmed with swatching. In either case I think most of the time I end up not posting my nail art because I'm simply not proud of it, but this was the rare exception to that. I am still to this day so very proud of this design especially considering the circumstances I was in at the time, but more on that in a little bit.

I believe this design took me about 2 hours if not a little closer to 3. Insanity, right? And it's honestly not an overly complex design that it requires that much time. The truth is that I am just that unbelievable slow when it comes to nails. To put in perspective, a simple nail art swatch and can take me an hour to do and photograph. This is why I used to have such long swatch turn around times back in the day. But yeah this nail art is completely freehanded with just a brush and some good ol paints from the craft store.

There is actually a bit of a story behind the decision for this particular nail art design. Oh god, I say it like that and now you probably think it's a good story haha. So this nail art was created about two years ago in the midst of my severe anemia discovery and under going IV infusion treatment. And let me tell you, not fun at all to say the least. It would be around a three hour session once a week that I endured for about a year and a half. I think the most difficult part being finding my veins. It would sometimes take 8-10 attempts before they found a stable enough vein. And that's if I got lucky because sometimes I was sent home without treatment. Then there was the treatment session itself, which would leave me feeling so disgusting from the inside out. Naturally I found myself seeking comfort and finding it in deliciously bad warm food. Namely - you guessed it - pizza. So I would come home from a grueling treatment session and eat myself a whole medium cheese pizza. Plus garlic knots cause a girl love her side dishes. And this was just my after treatment 'snack' as I would proceed to still have a whole dinner plus dessert that same night. As you can imagine a year of doing that didn't leave me feeling or looking that great. But yeah there was a nail art challenge or prompt that was something like 'your favorite food' and well it was definitely a no brainer at the time. And that's pretty much how and why this nail art look came to be.

Here's a breakdown of the tools and polishes I used to create this nail art look. As always please keep in mind this is just all the stuff I personally used, all of them can be easily substituted.

  • Polishes Used - Zoya Ness
  • Black, Yellow, Pink, Brown Acrylic Paint
  • Top Coat: Sally Hansen Big Matte Topcoat

The matte finish I think really pulls this look completely together for me. I love the retro cartoon vibe that it has going on as well. Even the areas where the lines aren't as neat as they could be ends up adding to the aesthetic. Looking back on it though I wouldn't change a thing about the end result. This is one of those designs I can look at a million times and be filled with so much pride in myself!

I'm really tempted to recreate these on my nails now and see how I end up doing. But to be honest my supplies are kind of diminished... and by that I mean I have no brushes and much less any acrylic paints to work with. I'm definitely in the process of rebuilding my supplies because nail art is something I want to get back into down the line. Would you guys want to see me recreate this nail look in 2020? I even have round-ish nails now so it'd be interesting to see the different vibe the design brings on a different nail shape. Let me know what you think down in the comments! As always please continue to stay safe and I will catch you next time xoxo Moonbaes.
