Spring Pastel Double Dotticure | Nail Art

Hiya guys! It's the end of the week and instead of a planner post I decided to bring you another nail art look. I don't think there are going to be any complaints about that, haha. Today I'm sharing this super fun and easy double-dotticure in pastel creams that are perfect for Spring. Or anytime really because you cannot go wrong with pastels period. For full transparency purposes this was another manicure found on my hard drive from a few years ago. Unlike with my moon phase manicure, I actually really liked how this nail look turned out back then and still love it now. But I somehow still never got around to posting it or even editing the nail art tutorial video. Looking back on it now it's hard to say why I never posted, but if I had to guess it was probably due to my schedule. I was swatching non-stop back then and posting five days a week, but still couldn't make room for nail art whatsoever. It was a very hectic period in my life, but I'm extremely grateful for all the amazing opportunities I had to work with brands. That being said, I'm very much regretful that I let nail art take a back-seat for so long.

Enough with the nostalgia I suppose, it's all about looking into the future and helping me find my nail art spark again. And this manicure definitely helps bring out those vibes in me again. The design itself is very basic and beginner friendly, which is perfect for anyone to try out at home. I know I have been showcasing a lot of dotted manicures on my blog in the last few months, but that's because I myself feel like a beginner and want to get a good foundation on the basis. Because unlike riding a bike, nail art skills do not naturally come back... Wait. Actually it might be a never forgotten skill-set like riding a bike. But I wouldn't really know since I don't even know how to ride a bike. I'm literally the worst at most skills, haha.

Like I was saying though, this is a really simple design that doesn't need much and can be done in very little time as well. The key though is waiting for things to dry. Impatience can be a real killer in most nail art designs, but more so when it comes to dots. Especially towards the end of the manicure when it comes to topcoat. I can't tell you the amount of times I have screwed up an entire manicure because I didn't want long enough to apply topcoat. Or worse even I pressed too hard with the topcoat brush and caused indents and smudging. But yeah like I mentioned before, I even had the video files unedited this whole time so of course I had to put it together. So while the video clips are old (you can tell by my super stained nails haha), the actual voice-over part was recorded in present time. And yes, you will hear me say 'wait until completely dry' quite a few times in the video as well. It's a point I cannot emphasis enough.

Here's a breakdown of the tools and polishes I used to create this nail art look. As always please keep in mind this is just all the stuff I personally used, all of them can be easily substituted.

  • Polishes Used - Virago Varnish California Bleach Collection: Coronado, Malibu, Vinice, and Laguna. Tux Polish - Pure (white cream). Rica - Blackout (black cream).
  • Dotting Tool (in two different sizes)
  • Top Coat: Seche Vite Glossy Topcoat

The main component for this manicure is the pastel-ish creams used as the base. I feel like this set of creams are perhaps a little too bright to be called pastels, but they definitely lean more towards that than anything else. Either way it's the contrast of the color versus the black and white that give this design an air of complexity. It almost feels intimidating to attempt on a first glance as the design comes off very sleek. I had a few compliments mentioning how they thought this was a nail decal or sticker because of how smooth the design looks. Creating it with a mixture of colors like this makes it that much more eye-catching as well. The other design element that I think is key is the placement of the white dots. You want them layered over the black, but not enough that it covers it completely and also not far away enough to break the 'shadow' illusion. Taking your time with this design will definitely help with nailing it... no pun intended.

I feel like I have said this so much in the post, but I cannot emphasis enough how much I love how this turned out. I definitely want to create this look again but using a different set of creams. Like imagine this in bright neons or in dark vampy shades. Maybe even invert the colors? Hmm. So many ideas floating around in my head now, haha. Let me know if any of this is something you'd like to see in the future. I hope you liked this post/design/video as much as me (even if it's an older unshared manicure)! Please continue to stay safe and well and I will catch you next time xoxo Moonbaes.
