Zoya Velvet Winter/Holiday 2015 Collection

Hiya guys! Oh my gosh, I feel like I am so late with this post! Like seriously, where did November fly off to?! I've had these swatches done for two weeks and then kept feeling too ill to edit the photos and type up my post. It felt like torture not being able to share these whilst seeing everyone else's pretty swatches, haha. Well without further ado today I am sharing swatches for the Zoya Velvet Winter/Holiday 2015 Collection. Let's go ahead and jump right to it.

Zoya Velvet Winter/Holiday 2015 Collection

The Velvet Winter/Holiday 2015 Collection from Zoya is available for purchase online and in select stores. Each one of the shades retails for $10.00 each and for $60 you can purchase the entire sampler set.

Zoya - Aspen

Aspen can be described as a sparkling arctic white with a micronized diamond pearl fleck in the traditional MatteVelvet finish. You'll definitely be seeing a lot of this one in the month of December! It's the perfect representation for glistening fresh snow and I actually ended up liking it way more than I thought. The first coat is a bit on the patchy side, but with a good second coat it evens out well. If you have a light hand, however, I could see this one being a three coater. Shown here is two coats and without a topcoat.

Zoya - Honor
Zoya - Honor

Honor can be described as a true emerald green with a tone on tone emerald pearl fleck in the traditional MatteVelvet finish. Perfect Christmas green for me! I love that it tends to lean a little on the darker side. The formula is really great with this one, nice smooth application and very opaque in a single coat. There was a staining to my actual skin/cuticles with this one, but it did not stain my nail bed. Shown here is two coats without an added topcoat.

Zoya - Honor

Zoya - Sue
Zoya - Sue

Sue can be described as a soft champagne gold with a multi-hued oyster shell pearl fleck in the traditional MatteVelvet finish. I was really excited to see a nude in this collection, but unfortunately this ended up being my least favorite. The formula and consistency were on the thin side causing very sheer layers. This one was also a little bit of a pain during removal because of micro flecks seemed to get everywhere. I was just not a fan of this one at all. Shown here is three coats and without a topcoat.

Zoya - Sue

Zoya - Amal
Zoya - Amal

Amal can be described as a classic crimson red with a ruby red pearl fleck in the traditional MatteVelvet finish. I feel this is by-far the single must-have of the entire collection, hands down! Such a gorgeous shade of red that looks good in its natural matte finish and glossy! The formula on this one is fantastic, super smooth application. Definitely can get away with one coat if you aren't using a light hand like I tend to do. Shown here is two coats without a topcoat.

Zoya - Amal

Zoya - Iris
Zoya - Iris

Iris can be described as a bold, vibrant medium purple with strong red and gold shimmer with a velvet MATTEVELVET finish. I thought I was going to end loving this one based on the bottle, but it just didn't 'wow' me in terms of application. The formula felt a bit runny and on the thin side causing it to be patchy on a first coat. I did experience some cuticle flooding, but there was no staining at least. Shown here in three coats and without any topcoat.

Zoya - Iris

Zoya - Yves
Zoya - Yves

Yves can be described as a deep sapphire that's midway in between indigo and royal blue with a blue pearl fleck in the traditional MatteVelvet finish. I want to just scream and say yes this is my favorite of all time, but I can't. At least not without first saying the obvious, it does stain. I did use double the base-coat for these swatches already predicating staining and even so I did have staining. As I've always said, I don't mind staining since my nails are rarely naked. Formula wise though this is flawless and has great easy opaque layers. Shown here in two coats and without any topcoat.

Zoya - Yves

Overall while I am in love with the shades of this years Velvet Mattes Collection from Zoya, I feel a like discontent with the formulas. It's like when the formulas were good then they blew my mind, but otherwise I ended up being frustrated during the application process. Of course, there are the must-haves like Amal and Yves. That's right even though it's a bit of a stainer, Yves is just too gorgeous to pass up in my opinion. Double up on the base coat, it's worth having smurfed nail beds for a few days after for a beautiful velvet blue mani in my world haha. But tell me guys, how did you feel about this years Velvet Matte Collection? And which one was your favorite?

  13. These colors with the velvet finish are gorgeous. I held off buying them because I've heard mixed reviews about the formula. Your photos are making me think the issues are worth it though!
